Last week the royal wedding dominated traditional media forms as well as saturating the web with content. Speculation about guests, the dress, honeymoon destinations was followed by the live coverage itself which was then followed by the highlights of the ceremony. Royal wedding features could be found on every news channel or radio station as well as all over blogs and social networking sites like Facebook.

The fact that YouTube has a channel dedicated to coverage of the royal wedding shows how far web 2.0 applications have progressed. The ceremony was undoubtedly an historical event with millions around the world avidly watching the wedding. Significantly, the rise of social networking and blogging allowed people access to a platform through which they could express their own opinions.

Facebook also allowed for people to express their attitudes towards the wedding before, during and after the ceremony. People updated their status’ about Kate Middleton’s dress, how cute Prince Harry was, how much they were loving or hating the coverage or how happy they were that thank god the footy was being televised at the same time.
